Carved Stone Fireplace on a Limestone Clad Chimney Wall

Limestone cladding rises the full height of this chimney breast, from the hearth to the timber trusses, in squared blocks of cream, honey, rose and grey set in regular courses. At its foot stands a carved stone fireplace surround with an arcaded frieze of figures and tracery above a herringbone brick firebox. Lights set into a timber ledge graze the stone at mid height, picking out the shift in colour from block to block. The fireplace sits on the centre line of the room, with an arched opening cut through the clad wall beside it and pale limestone slabs underfoot. Suited to living rooms, great rooms and libraries built around a hearth.
