Villa Facade with a Carved Limestone Arched Entrance

This exterior photograph shows limestone used as architectural trim on a rendered villa facade. The entrance is the strongest element: an arched doorway in pale limestone, with a moulded archivolt rising to a carved shell keystone and panelled pilasters on each side, all set within a field of ashlar blocks in cream and rose under a moulded cornice. The same stone forms the window surrounds, with moulded heads and corbelled sills, and frames a shaped oculus higher up. Low limestone steps lead to the iron entrance door across a cobbled forecourt. Suited to formal entrances, facades and the restoration of traditional houses.
